About the Authors

Virginia C. Johnson writes and edits articles as a web content librarian at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She graduated from the College of william and Mary with a degree in anthropology and went on to get her master's degree in library science from the University of Maryland. She and her husband, Steve, have two children, Autumn and Ben.

Barbara Crookshanks, a free lance writer in Fredericksburg, was on the staff of the Ladies' Home Journal in Philadelphia, the Charleston (WV) Gazette, and the Free Lance-Star newspaper. Long-time editor of the Fredericksburg Times magazine, she holds a degree in journalism from West Virginia University. She and her husband, Robert V. Crookshanks, are the parents of two daughters, Virginia C. Johnson and Lee P. Cotton.
